The edition

Inside the edition
General Sir Ian Hamilton's firsthand account of the Dardanelles expedition, from his appointment in March 1915 to the bitter struggle for the Allied footholds in July.
First published by Edward Arnold in London in 1920, Gallipoli Diary is one of the principal personal records of the Gallipoli campaign. Hamilton commanded the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and wrote from the vantage point of supreme military responsibility.
The first volume contains Chapters I–XII, covering the original strategic conception, the naval effort against the Dardanelles, the landings of 25 April and the subsequent operations at Cape Helles and Anzac.
This AETERNUS edition preserves the historical English text and the author's original preface and presents the work with new editorial essays on the geopolitical importance of the Straits, the military problem of amphibious operations, the origins of the campaign and the burdens of high command.
A major primary source for the history of the British Empire, the First World War and the Gallipoli expedition.
